Should robots/synthetic life be able to use magic?

There's an RP my friend and I are doing in a world that has both magic and some advanced technology, including robots.

I don't encounter these two things together very often, but on the rare chance that I do, the belief seems to be that inorganic life-forms can't use magic.

But I've been thinking; why not? Technically, robots and the like are still made out of earthly materials, though purified and re-purposed. I think of it like how Earthbenders in Avatar can sometimes metalbend, since it's made of purified metal.

Another thing that comes up is that stuff has to be "alive" or have some kind of soul, but in these contexts, usually plants and other organic things have some kind of life-force. Why wouldn't a living being made of synthesized materials have any sort of life-force?

Let me know what you think. Of course, in the end, magic is magic, and it can basically work however you want. But I'm still interested in in-universe explanations of why it can or cannot be used by robotic beings.

What if the robots are magic? Maybe it's a robotic body but it's controlled by some sort of ghost instead of an AI.
