Surprisingly (for me at least, considering my history) this was done very quickly. Only about 4-5 hours work. I just had this idea yesterday, in fact, and had to put it to paper. It's been too long since I've actually done any Cat Comixz work anyway.
So, you're all probably wondering just what exactly this is. Well, to be honest, I mostly made it for rant-y purposes. So, if it isn't obvious, this whole page here is a joke.
The rant itself isn't specifically about comics, though they are a part of what inspired this. Mainly, it's aimed at video games. I'll start off by saying that it's completely possible that I have or will do some of the things I complain about. None the less, I want to address these things. I'd really appreciate your time. If I actually bothered to MAKE ART for it, you know it must be important.
<Rant> I love video games. I love when games change over time and become something even greater than what they began as. However, there are certain pitfalls I've noticed. Certain patterns that, at least for me, are bothersome. One of the big ones is making enormous and drastic changes to how a game is played. Even worse, when it's changed to become something it really isn't.
I love Insomniac Games. They created the Playstation Spyro games, Ratchet and Clank, and the Resistance series, all of which I love with all my heart. They were originally going to make a game called Overstrike. This game would be a first person shooter with a great sense of humor, and lots of creative weapons that Insomniac is known for. But then, the plan changed. The game was changed. The humor aspect was lost, and it was homogenized into a Call of Duty clone, stripped of all special creative ideas.
This has happened to alot of series. Games that are unique, maybe even FPS games, changing their format to be more like Call of Duty stuff. I don't hate Call of Duty, mind you. They are the best at what they do. I don't even really mind some games becoming more like it. The problem comes when so many start to do this. When any different or interesting idea is lost to "appeal to a wider audience". A game like Dead Space has its' audience. Fans of horror games. It has an interesting interface and control style. But then comes Dead Space 3. Why? What's the point of drastically changing the game like this. I understand that games change, maybe in ways that I might not be a huge fan of, but what's wrong with having a different idea in this gaming culture?</Rant>
The making Leon and action hero and giving the characters boobs is actually more a jab at myself. Back when I originally made these characters, especially Melody, I was terrified to draw her in anything less than a sweatshirt because I was afraid people would think I'm a perv. It took guts for me to draw her in a bathing suit once we reach the mid-30's comics.
In designing them, the question of whether they should have breasts or hair came up, but I guess I had decided against it. I also notice that if you were to line up my main 3 female characters wearing bathing suits and if I don't color the image, you probably won't be able to tell them apart.
In case you can't tell, Sara is holding a thermometer.
The bottom part is more a comics thing. I want to point out that I have no real problem with people making side products to their original series. To be honest, the Cat Comixz plushies, Leon hat, and pins all seem like something I'd actually like to sell. I even love it when artists make these things for their fans with love. But that's the key. WHY they're made.
Again, there isn't anything wrong with monetizing. Making money doing what you love is a dream come true. But then, some things get really large. Some things don't seem to respond to fans anymore. Some things just pump out their product to make money. True, there still isn't anything wrong with that, but if I were to live off of Cat Comixz, I'd want to be sure both the audience and I enjoyed everything I made. I would feel bad if all I did was continuously pump out more and more Cat Comixz merchandise. I don't want Cat Comixz to evolve as a brand-name and toys and other crap that isn't in the spirit of the comic. I would want it to evolve as a series, for the characters to grow and change and get a place in everyone's hearts.
What I'm saying is, I wouldn't be a jerk and make DLC that is extremely important to Cat Comixz story that had to be paid for.

I completely agree with everything you say here. This not only goes for videogames, but for other media to, there's been plenty TV shows and movies I get severely disappointed in because of the direction they decide to take with the next sequel or season. It totally sucks when a franchise loses heart. D:
Sort of off-topic, but I've only ever owned Nintendo consoles until last year when we got a PS3. There's so many games I've missed out on during my childhood, I'm hoping to get a PS2 by the end of this year. I always wanted to play Ratchet and Clank smnfkjn.
Any who, I gotta say this picture is clever and pretty genius. I think it's hilarious when you portray your characters like this. I mean, MY GOD, THEY HAVE BOOBS, something I'm not used to. I would definitely purchase a beanie and a Leon plush. xD Boop, and I'm always looking forward to Cat Comixz, they have a distinct humor that I enjoy. I have kept track of your older comic posts, I hate to be blatantly honest even if it is your old work, but they don't interest me as much as your newer stuff. ;`; You've certainly improved all-around since the time those were created though.
